PHYTOHEMAGGLUTININ

PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS: Mitogenic activity is intense and can be used in in vitro stimulation of T lymphocyte growing for primates and other species (bovine, equine, swine, ovine, etc.).

ADVANTAGES: In vitro blastic transformation of lymphocytes and its mitosis have been employed in several clinical and research laboratories. These studies include metaphases for evaluation of human and animal karyotype, not only for diagnosis of malformation but also for small chromosome alterations that are responsible for problems of infertility and sterility. It has been used in immunology to search a proportion of T lymphocyte present in each individual associated with the capacity of immunological response. It has also been employed to verify DNA and RNA synthesis, for the study of mitotic cycle, synthesis in situ of some parts of DNA, retard of cellular division when in contact of some substances, the action of drugs upon the frequency of sister-chromatid exchange, etc.
The increase of sister-chromatid exchange, the breaks and determinations, chromosomal alterations that may occur after the action of some mutagenic drugs and physical agents (e.g. ionized radiation) have been used as a biological dosimeter.

Bibliography concerning the techniques to obtain karyotype, chromosomal banding, characterization of sister chromatid is available upon request.

VITROCELL also produces a sterile karyotype medium which is ready for use and includes VITROCELL PHYTOHEMAGGLUTININ in ideal proportions.

PRESENTATION: Bottles with 10 ml.
STORAGE: 0 to -20°C.
SHELF LIFE: 12 months.

DEFINITION: It is a mucophytohemagglutinin obtained from Phascolus Vulgaris. This variety was selected among several with the purpose to have high mitogenic activity without agglutinating the erythrocyte.

ACTION: It has potent mitogenic activity, being necessary 0.1 – 0.2 ml to stimulate basic differentiation and T lymphocyte mitosis presented in 1 ml of blood. In other words, if you add 0.1 – 0.2 ml of VITROCELL PHYTOHEMAGGLUTININ to the suspended lymphocyte in 05 ml of culture medium with 20% serum, you will have a great blastic stimulation. However, it is important to point out that there are several varieties of mitogenic response between species and within the same specie.
