PENICILLIN / STREPTOMYCIN

The use of antibiotics in medium for cell culture should be considered an additional precaution and not a sterilization method for culture medium. Thus, if aseptic technique is employed, the use of antibiotic is no longer necessary. In a short term cell culture (as in metaphases of peripheral blood or bone marrow) or even embryo culture, antibiotics may be employed with the purpose of avoiding an imminent contamination caused by external manipulation. Two factors may be taken into account: degree of cytotoxicity and cellular response to antibiotics, once the interaction between them varies a lot.
The amounts recommended by VITROCELL for in vitro cell culture are:

STORAGE: 0 to -20°C
SHELF LIFE: 12 months
CONCENTRATION:
PENICILLIN: 10.000 U.I. / ml
STREPTOMYCIN: 10 mg/ ml
